HAPPY 2010 EVERYBODY!
Welcome Back!

Welcome to "The Great Paperless Experiment"
1. Let me explain how this whole "paperless experiment" is going to work
-This website is the "homebase" for the Europe Unit. It will give you the directions, along with access to each of the assignments.
-I found a website that will allow me to store the files for free, but the catch is that you have to go to the site to download the file. Click here to see an example of what the webpage looks like.
-Please stick with me, this is the first time I've done this so there will be problems.
-Also, please pay attention to how loud you talk. Mrs. Boni is letting us use these computers because she is super-nice and we don't want to interrupt her.
2. Watch an introductory Europe Video.
-This video introduces us to the culture and geography of Europe.
-We're in a library, so please make sure to keep your volume low.
3. Like usual, we're going to start with a map. Click on this link to download the Europe Map
-Here are a few Europe Maps you can use to complete the map. Europe Map #1, Europe Map #2, and Europe Map #3
-After you finish your map save it as (YourName)EuropeMap in StudentZone -> Boyk -> 8thHour.
4. After you finish the map, complete the Europe Map Questions. If you don't get a chance to finish the questions, the Europe Map Questions are your homework.
-Use your maps along with the websites to finish the Europe Map Questions. If you don't have internet access at home, please tell me so I can give you a paper copy of your homework.
5. If you finish your homework, check out CNN Student News.
-Quite a few things happened over Winter Break and CNN Student News does a good job recapping all the events.
-Again, please pay attention to the volume.

Using Google Wave
Here's a guide explaining how to use Google Wave. It's intense, but it explains all the different features.
The Complete Google Wave Guide
The Complete Google Wave Guide
How do you get Google Wave?
Alright, now that you are completely sold on this and you are so excited you can barely contain yourself, here is how you do it!
- Create a Gmail account. Visit www.gmail.com and fill out the information. If you're going to be using this as a teacher, I'd advise selecting your professional name (i.e. MrBoyk@gmail.com or MrsKoleski@gmail.com).
- Ask me (Tom), to send you an invitation to join and I will (I promise).
- You'll then receive an e-mail (in your GMail account) confirming your acceptance in the Google Wave Community. Click on the link and you're off!!!

Legos and Google Wave...
Easier/Instant e-Communication
- When you send a message (or wave) using Google Wave, it automatically sends/receives itself...you don't have to touch anything.
- When you send an e-mail using Outlook, you have to wait for the recipient to press Send/Receive before they are even aware of the message.
- If you want multiple people to receive your message in Google Wave, all you have to do is drag their name into the message.
- If you want multiple people to receive your message in Outlook, you have to click on To and find their name, click add, waste your time.
- If you want to add another person to your series of messages (or waves), all you have to do is drag their name into the message.
- If you want to add another person to your series of messages in Outlook, you have to Forward the appropriate message to the right person.
- In Google Wave, all of your responses are located in the same message (or wave). You can see everybody's responses.
- In Outlook, you have to constantly Reply back and forth to send multiple messages.
SEND FILES QUICKLY AND EASILY
- In Google Wave, all you have to do to send a file is drag that file into the message (or wave).
- In Outlook, you have to click on the little paper clip and select add file. Then find the folder that the file is located in and click OK. If you want to add more than one file, you have to do that same process over and over and over again.
UPDATE YOUR BLOG FROM GOOGLE WAVE (they are still working on this part)
- Once Google completes their "Bloggy," you can update your blog as easily as making a wave.
