Step #1 - Choose the design of your family crest for the three options below:
Step #2 - Go to www.google.com/images and find maps and images that represent your family.
Here is an example:
But...there is a problem with this example. Try to avoid the extra white space on your design. Cover your whole family crest with images.
Step #4 - Delete the background
In Microsoft Publisher, go to Format > Background...
Then select the white box with a black "X" in it...
Step #4 - Define the edges of your family crest
Now the background should be gone. Next, you are going to insert a picture to create the edges of your family crest.
First, go to Insert > Picture > From file...
Then select Desktop > MS Student Zone > Boyk > Family Crest. Then select that file name that corresponds with the family crest design you selected (for example: If you picked Design #1 then select CrestBack1Blank). Drag the corners of the recently added image all the way to the edge of your page.
Now, the edges of your family crest are defined.
Step #5 - Add your family name(s)
Go to Insert > Picture > Autoshapes > Stars and Banners
Then add your shape. After you do that, right click on the shape and select Format Autoshape
Select Fill and click on More Colors
After you've selected your color, right click on your shapes and select Add Text
Type in your last name and then edit the font and size. You can see below that you can also edit the location of your name. Also, if you want to add the additional last names people in your family have had you can Insert > Picture > Autoshapes > Stars and Banners and go through the steps again.
The banner size can be readjusted by moving the Yellow Triangles.
If you are interested, you can use boxes instead of banners. Here is an example:
